BUCKWHEAT HONEY BETTER THAN COUGH SYRUP !
We happen to like buckwheat honey and always keep it around but we were surprised to find this article on how well it works for coughs, thouht some here might be interested. The last batch we bought was from Brownings mountain clover honey in Idaho Falls Idaho and it was quite good but my fave comes from goldenacreshoney.com in Alberta Canada it's the best tasting we've found. One of the Gals on our site turned me on to the Idaho honey and I should thank her because the price was good and so were the people to deal with......I haven't even tasted their clover honey yet just the Buckwheat. I plan on buying more of the Alberta buckwheat honey soon , there clover and alfalfa are exceptional also. Here's the link about buckwheat honey for cough suppression versus cough syrup, I don't think they're trying to sell honey there so I'm assuming it's non-bias......... http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/90536.php

An old country doctor gave my wife a recipe for cough syrup.
1/3 honey 1/3 whiskey 1/3 lemon juice Elroy - Exactly what my Mom used for us kids, growing up. And I still use it, to this day. It works. The only difference is she (Mom) would gently warm the lemon juice and the honey, then toss a shot of whiskey in. |
Re: BUCKWHEAT HONEY BETTER THAN COUGH SYRUP !
Anything is better than cough syrup. OTC cough syrup is totally ineffective. Much of it has been removed from the shelves. All of it should be.
Honey is good for many things, not the least of which is as an antibiotic. It helps heal wounds quickly. Particularly, raw honey is good. The natural enzymes are still present. |
Re: BUCKWHEAT HONEY BETTER THAN COUGH SYRUP !
Everybody uses the old Honey Booze & lemon elixir(also good to add allum powder) and Conk brought up a very good point always make sure you use raw or un-cooked honey it still has the live enzymes in it.
I did more research after posting about Buckwheat honey, it appears that the darker honeys like buckwheat contain more antioxidants . Interesting to note that more and more Doctors are recommending honey over cough medicine. |

You've never had honey until you've had S. Texas Huisache honey...nothing else like it, and hard to come by. The old whiskey, lemon, honey cough syrup goes way back...I was first introduced to it by my great aunt, born in 1890.

Yes it was you and I owe you a big THANK YOU !. I believe I called them and they sent me the honey and billed me for it later, rare to run into people so trusting.....I fully expected to send the money and they would send the product, but they insisted on sending the honey first. "Brownings mountain clover honey" in Idaho Falls Idaho is a first rate outfit in my book :applause_.....they even have Buckwheat honey |

We get our orange honey over in Visalia CA., nothing but orange groves as far as the eye can see.....nothing like the smell of a few thousand acres of orange blossom scent in the air, can almost be over powering . Didn't know they grew oranges in Idaho. |

Ever try Buckleys cough syrup? Tastes nasty but works great. People from Canada know what it is.

Yeah, I'm sure it's great and all but the important question is: Do you get a good robo trip off of it?

I actually read about the cough syrups in the local newspaper, was kind of surprised to see it there. I've done the honey, lemon, whiskey thing too, but I added some green tea to it and it worked for a cough associated with a cold. If you take a cup of water and heat it up so that it's steamy, and breath in the steam. That helps with a stuffy nose too. :-) |
Re: BUCKWHEAT HONEY BETTER THAN COUGH SYRUP !
Cotton Blossom honey is by far the sweetest honey I have ever tasted, it's crystalized all the time, always solid...It's so sweet it's choking....and this is coming from a guy that loves sweet honey...
I thank you for the recipe Quote:
